I'm delighted to welcome back Ryan Soeyadi on piano and Jihyun Baik on violin to celebrate composer Franz Schubert's 229th birthday with an evening of beautiful gems (of course, mostly by Schubert)!
Doors open at 7 pm, music starts around 7:30 pm.
What's the music?
Schubert - Violin Sonatina in D major, D. 384
Brahms - Violin Sonata No.3, Op. 108 (2nd & 3rd mvm.)
Leonard Fu - Albumblatt
Schubert - Fantasie in C major, D. 934
Where does this music come from?
On the eve of Franz Schubert’s birthday, this program celebrates his life by placing his music alongside works spanning the course of time. Beginning with the youthful Schubert sonatina, the program moves to Brahms’s Violin Sonata No. 3, whose larger scale and intensity offers a striking contrast. A short contemporary piece by Leonard Fu provides a quiet moment of reflection, before the program returns to Schubert in the Fantasy on “Sei mir gegrüßt,” a work written in the last year of his life that blurs traditional movement boundaries to evoke the expressive breadth of yearning, nostalgia, and departure.
