The Rule of Three Trio (www.ruleofthreetrio.com) is a classical ensemble formed of NYC-based musicians and Yale University alumni Chelsea Lane (harp), Ginevra Petrucci (flute), and Colin Brookes (viola). The trio takes its name from the timeless artistic principle that elements grouped in threes create harmony, balance, and a sense of completeness.
This is your chance to hear this hot new trio perform in an intimate salon setting while soft lights outside the sweeping windows twinkle from across the Hudson.
Don't wait to reserve your spot! This will be a popular one!
What's the music?
For this Groupmuse, Rule of Three (flute, viola, and harp) presents a program of primarily contemporary classical works by composers who deliberately step away from the sound-world associated with Debussy’s iconic Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp. Featuring music by contemporary voices such as Timo Andres, Jessica Meyer, and Ellis Ludwig-Leone (among others), this evening highlights alternative languages for the trio: sharper contours, new harmonic logics, unexpected textures, and a reimagined sense of lyricism. Think of it as a portrait of what this unusual instrumentation can become when the familiar reference point is held at arm’s length: music that refreshes the ear, challenges the imagination, and opens new doors for this distinctive instrumentation.
