ho performed the complete Rachmaninoff solo piano works within the compose
r’s 150th-anniversary year in 2023\, **Asiya Korepanova** is a pianistic
powerhouse hailed as a "tremendously gifted pianist who exhibits a singul
ar affinity for Rachmaninoff’s Russian romantic idiom and possesses the
blazing technique to fully realize his distinctive scores" (South Florida
Classical Review)\, who is also highly recognized as a composer\, visual a
rtist\, and poet.\n\nA herald of an enormous repertoire encompassing [over
  60 piano concertos](https://www.asiyakorepanova.com/repertoire) and solo
works ranging from early Baroque period to music of living composers\, Asi
ya is a quintessential completist. She finds unique joy in performing comp
lete collections of works such as the 24 Liszt Etudes or the entire Well-T
empered Clavier by Bach. Her emotionally charged and colorfully nuanced pe
rformances have gained her the admiration of audiences and resulted in man
y repeat engagements.\n\nAsiya\, a pianist and composer\, draws her musica
l inspiration from the legacy of Dmitry Shostakovich\, having studied comp
osition under his direct disciple\, Albert Leman. She is the author of ori
ginal works in multiple genres and instrumentations. Her historic solo pia
no transcriptions of [Richard Strauss’ "Ein Heldenleben"](https://www.as
 iyakorepanova.com/r-strauss-ein-heldenleben)\, [Rachmaninoff's Cello Sonat
 a](https://www.asiyakorepanova.com/rachsonata3)\, Tchaikovsky's *Manfred*
Symphony\, and [Mussorgsky's "Songs and Dances of Death"](https://www.asiy
 akorepanova.com/mussorgsky-songs-and-dances-of-deat) have placed her among
today’s formidable transcribers. Most recent composition events include
the [world premiere recording of Asiya’s concerto for alto saxophone an
 d piano\, "Poème"](https://open.spotify.com/track/6i1kI7TddUxOjbUncF3mYD?
si=e7c29fd28c304825)\, performed by Thomas Giles and Liana Pailodze Harron
\; the [publication of her transcription of Rachmaninoff's Cello Sonata](h
 ttps://www.etsy.com/listing/1143618230/rachmaninoff-korepanova-transcripti
on-of)\; the premiere of her Piano Quintet *I marvel at the sky* commissio
ned by the Third Dimension Music Festival\; and the premiere of *Con Brio*
for two pianos\, performed with her duo partner Ilya Kazantsev as a part
of the Dranoff Two Piano Foundation series.\n\nAn avid chamber musician\,
Asiya collaborates with a wide array of musicians. Her partners include Da
vid Shifrin\, the Hermitage Piano Trio\, Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt\, Svet
oslav Stoyanov\, Giora Schmidt\, and Alexander Fiterstein. She regularly p
erforms as part of the *88 by 20* piano duo with her friend and former cla
 ssmate\, Grammy-nominated pianist Ilya Kazantsev.\n \nUninhibited in her a
rtistic expression\, Asiya is also sought after her work as a visual artis
t and poet. Her uncompromising dedication to the arts have culminated in [
several projects featuring original poetry and visual art](https://www.asi
yakorepanova.com/multimedia-projects) that serve as interpretive commentar
y for a particular cycle of piano works. These cycles include [Liszt’s T
 ranscendental Etudes](https://www.asiyakorepanova.com/euphoria-after-liszt
 )\, [Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier](https://www.asiyakorepanova.com/bach-
 wtc-book-i)\, [Tchaikovsky’s 18 Morceaux\, Op. 72](https://www.asiyakore
 panova.com/tchaikovsky-album-op-72)\, and\, most recently\, Mussorgsky's *
Pictures at an Exhibition*. Asiya's live performances of these composition
s have astounded audiences and organizers alike.\n \nCaring about the deve
lopment of society\, in 2017 Asiya founded [Music for Minds](http://www.mu
sicforminds.org/)\, a non-profit organization that brings classical perfor
mances into classrooms and creates music festivals featuring unique progra
mming. From 2017 through 2019\, Asiya directed her brainchild Festival Bal
timore\, a two-week chamber music series and summer academy dedicated to t
he performance and study of complete cycles\, one of Music for Mind's proj
ects. In just three years\, the festival solidified itself as a highly ori
ginal music series and academy\, presenting a wide array of styles and per
 formers.\n \nBorn in Izhevsk\, Russia\, to a musical family\, Asiya began
learning the piano at 4 years old from her mother Soreya\, her first piano
teacher. At the age of 6\, she was taught to read music in orchestral cle
fs by her father Sergey\, an exemplary composer\, and started composing he
r own music. At 9\, she made her orchestral debut\, playing Mozart's Conce
rto No. 8 with her own cadenza\, and gave her first full philharmonic reci
tal.\n \nSimultaneously\, she began studying composition with Albert Leman
\, the chair of Moscow Conservatory's composition department and a student
of Dmitry Shostakovich. She continued working with him until his passing
in 1998. That short period has influenced all future aspects of her musica
l and artistic development.\n \nAs a result of her early bond with composi
tion\, Asiya appreciates new music. In Russia\, she premiered three piano
concertos by Vladislav Kazenin and Shamil Timerbulatov\, performing with t
he Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra\, the Saint Petersburg Capella Symphony Or
chestra\, the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra\, and the Tatarstan National Sym
phony Orchestra. In the U.S.\, she has premiered various works by Michael
 Daugherty\, Thomas Sleeper\, and Orlando Garcia\, among others.\n \nThroug
hout her early years in Russia\, Ms. Korepanova received various awards fo
r her prodigious abilities. These include the Russian Federation President
ial Award for Exceptional Achievement in the Arts\, the National Award fro
m the Republic of Udmurtia (2002)\, the Germany Berliner Salon Award (2003
)\, the Russia Youth Triumph Award (2005)\, and the title of Honored Artis
t of Udmurtia (2009).\n \nIn 2012\, Asiya moved to the United States at th
e invitation of renowned pianist and maestro Santiago Rodriguez\, to earn
a doctoral degree under his guidance at the University of Miami. Later tha
t year\, she was awarded the Gold Medal at the Nena Wideman International
Piano Competition — an achievement that proved invaluable in establishin
g her concertizing career in the U.S. In 2017\, she added a University of
Miami Artist Diploma degree to her portfolio\, having earned it in the stu
dios of Kevin Kenner and Tian Ying.\n \nAsiya has since continued to garne
r national attention with performances at Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hal
l\, the Phillips Collection\, and many other notable recital series\, symp
hony orchestras\, and festivals throughout the country. She has been featu
 red on CNN\, NPR stations\, WFMT\, and WETA.\n \nIn 2023\, Asiya embarked
on a monumental project in celebration of Rachmaninoff’s 150th birth ann
iversary\, performing his complete solo piano music in six recital program
s throughout the United States. She premiered her latest transcription —
the *Manfred* Symphony by Tchaikovsky\; toured performing Clara Schumann'
s\, Grieg's\, and Rachmaninoff's piano concertos\; and anticipates the rel
eases of scores of her compositions: the *Poéme* for alto saxophone and p
iano and *Con Brio* for two pianos\, as well as transcriptions of works by
  Mussorgsky\, Franck\, Amy Beach\, Fauré\, Berg\, and Bach.\n \nIn 2025\,
Asiya makes her debut at the Tippet Rise concert series\, brings her belo
ved Amy Beach piano concerto to New York City in performance with Pegasus:
The Orchestra\, returns to San Francisco Piano Festival\, Master Players
Concert Series in Delaware\, Vashon Center for the Arts\, Friends of Chamb
er Music of Miami\, MostArts Music Festival\, and others. In June\, she di
 rects the inaugural [Flatiron Festival](https://www.flatironfestival.com/)
\, a two-week chamber series in Manhattan. She anticipates the releases of
scores of her compositions: the Poéme for alto saxophone and piano and C
on Brio for two pianos\, as well as transcriptions of Manfred Symphony by
Peter Tchaikovsky for piano solo\, and other works by Mussorgsky\, Franck\
 , Amy Beach\, Fauré\, Berg\, and Bach.\n \nAsiya and her husband Dmitry r
eside in a forest-rich Boston suburb\, where she has unlimited time and ho
urs of the day to practice or listen to music. She is an avid runner and h
iker\, and an advocate for a healthy lifestyle.\n\n**About Jonathan DePeri
**\n\n**Jonathan DePeri** founded [Gotham Arts](https://gothamarts.net) in

ntimate and convivial settings\, providing a stage for music and artistry
that might otherwise not be heard in NYC. A classically trained pianist\,
organist\, and violinist\, Jonathan concertizes with a variety of vocal an
d instrumental collaborators\, in particular focus on the German and Russi
an art song repertoire\, folk music including especially African-American
