 laying violin at age 5\, studying at Harlem's highly regarded Opus 118 pro
 gram. At age 11\, he joined the classical Inter School Orchestra and atten
 ded a Harlem School of the Arts jazz program taught by a Berklee professor
  Rob Thomas. In middle school\, he was given special permission to attend 
 the Calhoun High School jazz camp and played as part of The Jazz Mafia wit
 h Roy Ayers at Central Park's Summer Stage\n\nBen attended New York Univer
 sity on the Steinhardt scholarship for jazz violin. He is a recipient of t
 he National Young Arts award for three years in a row and a two-time Billy
  Strayhorn award winner. Ben is also a Virtu Violin Recipient. Ben was rec
 ently selected to audition for the prestigious Herbie Hancock program at U
 CLA in LA. In 2025\, Ben was the violinist for the Mahavishnu Project\, a 
 modern iteration of the original band with the blessings of the original m
 embers John McLaughlin\, Jan Hamer\, Jean-Luc Ponty\, Jeff Beck\, and Bill
 y Cobham. \n\n**About the Venue**: Daruma is a safe\, fun and friendly mar
 tial arts training environment in Crown Heights\, Brooklyn.
