    Groupmusers are once again welcomed back to beautiful Gordon Chapel to experience Sacred Voices, a series curated by the Autumn Salon that celebrates the power of the human voice, and the freedom to express it.

    Lit by candlelight and accompanied by brilliant cellist Naseem Alatrash, this performance features renowned Persian vocalist Mahsa Vahdat in her first-ever visit to the East Coast! Mahsa will be sharing the songs and stories of her ancient musical tradition, something that’s publicly forbidden for her to do as a woman in her native country of Iran.

    Mahsa recently immigrated to the US and is opening up new pathways between Persian and Western Classical music, most notably through her recent album with the celebrated Kronos Quartet, Placeless. In her own words:

    ‘I’ve personally suffered from injustice, and have found the only thing I can do is continue to sing; every tone is a protest, like the shedding of seeds that allow new plants to grow. I’ve always felt it’s so important that I stay true to this path, not only for myself, but so this art form can be preserved and passed down to future generations.’
